In the picturesque Swiss town of Grenchen, at the base of the Jura mountains, brothers Adolf and Alfred Kurth established their watchmaking workshop in an annex of their family home in 1888. The business quickly prospered, leading to expansions and an increase in staff over the years. In 1906, they introduced "Grana" as the brand name for their watches, a nod to "Granacus," the Latin name for Grenchen. These timepieces gained immediate recognition, earning several awards. During the 1920s, the company navigated through the Great Depression under the leadership of Alfred’s sons, Erwin and Hans Kurth, continuing its tradition of quality and innovation.
