Oris was established in 1904 by Paul Cattin and Georges Christian in the Swiss town of Hölstein. Named after a nearby brook, Oris started as a small watch factory but quickly expanded to become a prominent player in the Swiss watchmaking industry. By 1911, Oris was the largest employer in Hölstein, with over 300 workers and a growing reputation for quality and precision. The company continued to grow, opening factories in several locations throughout Switzerland, including Holderbank, Como, and Herbetswil.
