The Benrus Type II and GG-W-113 (photo by @deepsea.edc)
Here at The Watch Preserve, we believe one of the most appealing aspects of vintage watches is their tangible connection to history. Nowhere is that connection more clear than vintage military watches. Thanks to detailed military records, archival photos, and even the ordinance markings on the watches themselves, military watches provide real connections to the past. We recently sent our friends Brock (@deepsea.edc) and Jacob (@sea_vue) two Benrus military watches for some content to explore just this.
Brock, a fantastic photographer, product designer and real life Navy Diver, highlighted our Benrus GG-W-113 and Type II with a series of gorgeous photos; complimented by a highly detailed write-up by Jacob, a multitalented writer, historical guru and vintage dive gear enthusiast.
This article goes in-depth into Benrus’ involvement in the US Military, particularly during the Vietnam War. It highlights the special features of our two Benrus watches: the general use GG-W-113 and the very rare Type II for the special forces. These watches, thanks in part to @artdecowristwatches, are both available at The Watch Preserve.
You can sing your teeth into this fantastic write up and photo report at Jacob’s Substack, and be sure to follow @deepsea.edc, @sea_vue, and @artdecowristwatches for more excellent watch content.
